Elaeagnus are also known as spotted oleaster - they a medium evergreen shrub with broad ovate leaves. They bear small silver, slightly fragrant flowers which sometimes are followed by berries in Autumn. Makes a lovely specimen shrub or a very colourful screening plant as it is very dense growing and does well with being trimmed. Elaeagnus x Ebbingei Vivileg is a new and improved Gilt Edge. It has a compact, upright form with glossy dark green centred leaves and irregular gold margins, in autumn bears fragrant white flowers, height can reach up to 2.4m Elaeagnus grow well in fertile, well-drained soil and is ideal for shady, windy or seaside positions but not cold or wet situations. In late summer cut back long or misplaced shoots using secateurs to keep it looking tidy.
