Polystichum also known as the soft shield fern are mostly tufted semi-evergreen hardy ferns, with thick roots and beautiful green divided leaves, some cultivars will have beautiful orange & brown leaves, Polystichum like full or part shade and moist soil, a very easy plant to grown and looks great under trees and larger shrubs to add a bit of textures to the darker areas of your garden, Polystichum will grow to around 1.5 meters tall and 1 meter wide no pruning is required only to remove dead or damaged leaves. Polystichum Setiferum are evergreen fern with erect, leathery, lance- shaped dark green overlapping fronds forming shuttlecocks that consist of small spiny leathery pinnae. Height 1.2m. Spread 30cm.
