Carpinus are deciduous native hedger that bears oval, prominently veined, dark green leaves that turn yellow and orange in autumn, it does hold onto some of the golden brown foliage through the winter, but as the new leaves come through in spring they will fall off. Carpinus can withstand damper soil and in sun or part shade. If you want a beech hedge but have wet ground these look the same and from 10 paces you can't tell.
