Carex is a very hardy aquatic, bog or grass like plant which can be deciduous or evergreen bearing linear or strap shaped dark green leaves with long spikes of tiny green or brown flowers. Carex should be allowed to grow well in damp ground.Carex is very easy to grow and they are even easier to maintain. They are a very low maintenance plant that like full sun to partial shade and a moist soil. Carex needs trimming back once it has flowered. Carex Red Rooster is a new zealand hair sedge which is a lovely evergreen compact grass which has narrow graceful arching Red-bronze leaves accompanied by dark brown flower spikes
