Phormium or new zealand flax are evergreen plants that make a large clump of leathery, strap-like, upright foliage. They bare tall panicles of tubular flowers. Phormiums make beautiful architectural plants and like to be planted at the back of the border or as a feature specimen. Pruning - Cut out any deead or damaged leaves in spring with a sharp pair of secateurs. Propagate from seeds sown in Spring. . Planting phormiums is easy they require full sun or partial shade and a moist well drained soil. The Phormium Tenax Variegata has broad erect Dark-Green leaves striped creamy-yellow at the margin and bares reddish purple flowers on long panicles in Summer when established. Ultimate height around 4m.
