Berberis or barberries are deciduous mound forming shrubs. They have bright attractive foliage and bear small red to yellow berries in autumn. Berberis Harlequin have attractive reddish pink leaves marbled with white, small red tinged pale yellow flowers, followed by red berries in autumn. Berberis have plenty of prickles so are commonly used as a security hedge.Barberry shrubs range in size from dwarf species suitable for rock gardens to larger specimens which are ideal for a shrub border. Berberis are easy to grow and maintain, respond very well to being trimmed. Berberis should be trimmed after flowering to maintain a neat shape. They are fully hardy shrubs which grow well in most well-drained soils. Berberis Bagatelle A dwarf compact deciduous shrub with wine red foliage with pale straw coloured flowers and crimson red berries in autumn. Can also be used for low hedging.
