Chamaecyparis are evergreen trees, usually of narrowly ovoid or columnar outline, with much-branched sprays of small scale-like leaves, and small, globose cones; tiny red male cones are conspicuous in a few cultivars. Chamaecyparis like full sun or shade and grow well in moist soil. Great for flower borders and container plants. You will not need to prune these very often but an odd trim to keep them looking tidy. Chamaecyparis lawsoniana Columnaris is a Attractive slow growing conifer with a tidy columnar habit and glaucous blue foliage. Grows slowly to quite a large specimen in any soil or position. Height can reach 8-12 meters.
