Beech make great hedges without taking over the garden. Just make sure they have good drainage and they will thrive. You can get bareroot beech from November and save money, but think on, you will lose a few. Planting pot grown is much more assured and you don’t need to cut them back when you plant.

“The beech hedging arrived promptly (24 x 3 litre pots). Noticed that the tips were curled and brown and thought that this may have been frost damage. When unpacked though found that the little trees were heavily infested with mealy bug - the underside of the leaves were white with fluffy little aphids. Spent hours and hours spraying all the leaves with soapy water and then rinsing. After planting, 2 plants have died - all the leaves have turned brown. Many others have brown tips and believe this has been caused by heavy infestation of mealy bugs. Yesterday I sent a review AND 4 photos - yet this never appeared as a review! I’m not happy that I’m going to have 2 gaps in the hedge where plants have died.”

“Bought 15 of these to fill in on a new hedge was so grateful for the speedy delivery plants were obviously different ages although height was as described, nevertheless they did the job.”
