Cupressocyparis - leylandii - is an ideal evergreen screen and provides privacy very quickly. There is no other form of hedging that will do the job as quickly or as economically. There are two species to the family of leylandii, being variations of green or golden coloured. Golden leylandii grow 20% slower than green leylandii. Up to 90cm in one year is achievable with the green variety. They are not a scary as you might think to look after - they need trimming once or twice a year and this can be done with hedge shears, if you keep on top of the pruning then they won't get ahead of you. They like pretty much all aspects of the garden.
