Dryopteris ferns are mostly deciduous but in mild winters most do stay green in sheltered sites. They bear pinnate to 4 pinnate fronds, they produce kidney shaped spores. The foliage looks very attractive planted with herbaceous perennials and shrubs. Best planted in a sheltered, partially shady border with moist, humus-rich soil with other shade-loving woodland perennials. Evergreen fern producing a shuttlecock of fronds, which are pale green turning dark green. They can gro up to a height of 90cm
