“Booking Balinese Cooking Class & Tanah Lot Temple Visit with ForeverVacation was easy, efficient, and all done via the Internet and WhatsApp. Shortly after I booked, I received confirmation and a request to share a little about myself so that ForeverVacation could better match my day with a driver who would fit my travel style. To make that request easier to complete they included several questions to help, like: are my interests culture or photo-taking? Do I prefer an active day or a relaxing day? etc., which I thought was pretty cool.
Two days prior to my scheduled tour I received another email that outlined the day’s agenda and timetable for the day with pick up time, amount of travel time, time at the cooking class, and then time to travel and visit the temple. That was a nice touch that I greatly appreciated as it laid out the day nicely and I knew what to expect.
My driver, Hendy (exceptional gentleman – more about him at the end) for the day picked me up at the exact time as was on the agenda, 7:15 AM. We traveled from my hotel to a meeting point (there were 24 of us in the class) near the open-air market we were going to tour and procure the ingredients for what we will be cooking that morning. Once we all arrived, we met our leader, Chef Komang, who would be our instructor for the day.
The open-air market tour was a treat (as it always is for me) with the huge quantities of just about anything you would want to buy. As we walked through the market, Chef Komang explained what ingredients we will be using and the flavor they will add to each of the dishes we will be making.
From there we proceeded to Nia Cooking Class, which is a combination restaurant and teaching school, so there are cooking classes going on at the same time as the restaurant is serving customers meals.
The class was extremely well done and very well organized. Chef Komang had assistants that worked with each of our groups of 4 at each table and stove as we prepared each of the dishes.
Class instruction included how to prepare spices and how they are prepared in a certain way to release their flavor and aroma as well as learning techniques as to how to fold banana leaves for making dumplings and steaming some of the meals. We also learned how to prepare chicken for grilling as well as applying spices to the meat for maximum flavor.
Overall, a great experience with the restaurant and learning to cook some favorite local Balinese foods. I personally learned a few new things about spices as well as gaining a more in-depth knowledge of how to steam vegetables and meats.”
“The cooking class was well-organized, and my guide, Nyoman, was very supportive throughout. However, the pace was a bit fast for me, so I struggled to keep up at times. The visit to Tanah Lot Temple was stunning, but I wish we had a bit more time to explore the surroundings. Nyoman’s explanations about Balinese culture were insightful and added a lot to the experience. Overall, it was a memorable day, but a slightly slower pace in the class would have made it perfect for me.”
“This was a fantastic day filled with cultural insights and great food! The cooking class was so much fun, and my guide, Ketut, made it feel approachable even for someone like me who doesn’t cook often. The dishes we prepared were delicious and surprisingly easy to replicate. Tanah Lot Temple was a highlight, with a gorgeous sunset view. The crowd was noticeable, but Ketut ensured we had a peaceful spot to enjoy it. ForeverVacation did a wonderful job organizing the entire experience!”
“The cooking class was enjoyable, but I would have liked more hands-on time with some of the dishes. My guide, Wayan, was excellent, providing clear instructions and sharing fascinating insights about Balinese ingredients. The visit to Tanah Lot Temple was stunning, but I wish we had arrived earlier to avoid the larger crowds. Wayan’s storytelling made the experience very memorable. This was a wonderful day overall, but a bit more time in the cooking class would have made it perfect.”
“This was an immersive and enriching experience! The cooking class was a highlight for me, with our guide, Gusti, making it fun and engaging. The dishes we made were delicious and felt truly authentic. Visiting Tanah Lot Temple at sunset was magical, though it was busier than expected. Gusti made sure we had the best experience despite the crowds. ForeverVacation did a great job creating a balanced day of hands-on learning and breathtaking views. Highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Bali!”
“We absolutely loved this cooking class! We’ve never eaten so much incredible food before. The family are lovely and accommodating and excellent chefs. By far the best food we’ve eaten in Indonesia and we enjoyed learning the traditional ways of cooking and eating. Thank you for everything!
And once again thanks Aprio for your service.”
“This tour gave me such a wonderful glimpse into Balinese culture! The cooking class was interactive, and my guide, Agus, made the experience enjoyable and informative. The food was incredible, and I felt so proud of what we made. Tanah Lot Temple was gorgeous at sunset, but there were many tourists. Agus made up for it by finding quieter spots for great photos and views. ForeverVacation made the whole process seamless, and this was one of the best experiences I had in Bali!”
“The cooking class was a unique experience, but I expected more variety in the dishes we prepared. My guide, Wayan, was great at keeping the energy up and making it enjoyable. Tanah Lot Temple was absolutely stunning, but it was very crowded. Wayan’s stories about the temple’s history made the visit more meaningful. Overall, I had a great time, but a slightly longer cooking session or an extra dish to prepare would have made the experience even better. Still, highly recommend the tour!”
