“We had a wonderful time on the Secret Waterfall Tour. Our driver - Aprio - picked us up at 8am from our hotel in Ubud and we traveled north to the region of Wanagiri, about a 2 hour drive. There, we visited two waterfall locations and five distinct waterfalls. The first waterfall - called Banyumala - was a nice walk through jungle forest down to the base of the waterfall. There we dressed down to our swimsuits and waded into the water. We also discovered a smaller waterfall adjacent to the main falls which offered fun swimming and photos. All along the trail - which was quite steep at times - were a myriad of beautiful wild plants and flowers. We then drove to a second waterfall - the Banyu Wana Amertha Waterfall - and began our descent when suddenly it rained. Fortunately, our driver went and bought ponchos from a nearby convenience stand. This made for a rather adventurous viewing experience for the three distinct waterfalls we viewed, each luscious and beautiful. We then drove back to the Wanagiri area near the Danau Buyan lake and stopped for lunch at an authentic Balinese restaurant. The food was very good! Finally, we visited a coffee plantation where we had Luwat coffee and a slate of other local coffee favorites like Ginger. We would have visited another waterfall but we needed to be back to Ubud by 6pm and traffic was considerably bad that day.
Overall we had a great experience despite the rain, and despite the traffic. We especially appreciated our driver - Aprio - who possessed almost encyclopedic knowledge of all things Indonesia. This made the trip very enjoyable as my wife and I felt like we learned a lot from our conversations with him.
