Organic Unrefined Cane Sugar, also known as Panela or rapadura, is a great all rounder, perfect for sweetening hot drinks or for baking. This sugar is a perfect cupboard staple and is a great choice for cakes and muffins due to its notes of toffee and caramel. Try it in flapjacks for that deep, 'caramelly' flavour. Unrefined sugar has a much richer taste because it retains the original cane molasses.
This natural sweetener is much less refined than other sugars you can find. It has varying names in different countries but you may recognise it as 'Muscovado' or 'Rapadura'. Unrefined sugars don't have their cane molasses removed during their processing resulting in a rich, fruity flavour.
Refined white sugar is a bland product which undergoes a lot of processing. Choosing unrefined sugar offers a richer taste and wider range of trace nutrients.
