“We have used these several times where we require something to be held firmly without movement but which we must be able to remove occasionally.
One instance where we have a moving cable chain on a sliding table saw. We adapted the sliding table to have the chain moving within the supporting rail. The sliding part moves further in both directions than the length of the support rail. We made a bracket which is fastened to the sliding table and upon which are mounted six round magnets. When the table moves out, it takes the cable chain with it. When the table moves in and passes the point where the start of the support rail is, the magnets disengage and the sliding table continues past.”
