“Excellent reach and fairly light for size of lense makes hand holding possible. AF quick and fairly sharp at 800mm. Good IQ in good light. Build quality has a few issues. The switches are very temperamental. The AF/Control/MF switch is temperamental. You have to ensure it's moved firmly to AF in order for it to engage. Same goes for stabiliser switch. Both switches are easily nudged out of position. Zoom ring is very stiff even on smooth setting. Lense hood is flimsy and marks easily. As the lense lacks the coatings of L series lenses, it attracts dust and smudges easily. I wouldn't want to get it wet as one drip of water has left a water mark already and I don't want to start srubbing it to get it off. Doesn't affect IQ. Overall good and good value for money, but feels inferior to L series RF 100-500, which has a fantastic build quality. You get what you pay for and it is value. Good starter lense to give variety of focal length.”
