My Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS III USM stopped working (I suppose dropping it on the concrete floor didn't help). Before it broke, it gave me excellent images and focused with pin sharp accuracy. After getting a quote from an authorised retailer to fix it for over £1000, I decided to go for a brand new Sigma instead. The quality of the Sigma's images is definitely on par with the Canon. The only problem with the Sigma are the following: 1) The zoom ring is at the end of the lens. Making it slightly trickier in turning. 2) It goes from 70-200mm the opposite way to the Canon. Took me a while to get use to it. 3) Because the Zoom ring is at the end of the lens, I cannot place the lens hood on the lens if I am not using the lens hood, as the lens hood completely covers the zoom ring (that is definitely a design flaw. As every lens that I have ever used, the unused lens ring fits nicely onto the lens. 4) The minimum focus distance of 65cm - 100cm is quite far (in my opinion) 5) It’s 380gms heavier. Which is a significant amount. Considering you might be using it for prolonged periods. What I love about the lens: a) The images are spot on and tactile sharp. You will have to pixel peep to find the smallest of differences. b) Programmable buttons c) I like the positioning of the tripod mount. It rock solid and sturdy. In summary, the lens is a beast and takes excellent images with the right camera. I use the R3 and it gives me the results I want.
