When selecting a ECU to use for my build I wanted options, many options! I was after a replacement for my old ME221 Gen 1, which in fairness was fine for my original build, but I was always left feeling like it wasn't quite right for me. There has always been plenty of argument as to which is better from the various manufacturers and to be fair, many of the arguments are valid for different people's needs. However, the way I see it Megasquirt has been about long enough to iron out all of the old issues, leaving just the great feature set which sets them apart from the competition. it comes in its own sturdy case, okay you won't be seeing it much (hopefully) but it's definitely nice to not have to reuse the stock one. I moved this case to the air bag compartment (I installed a mk2.5 dash into my Mk1), it fits almost perfectly which makes for a nice clean install with easy access, getting it up out of the footwell and away from any water that could fry it in a flood or seal failure. Install was as easy as you'd expect; plug and play, with the O2 sensor wired directly to the ECU the calibration was a perfect 1:1 out the box, and seeing that I still had so many unused wires I started to wonder just what i could actually have the thing control. 16 inputs and 23 outputs, thats what it can control! How many I/O's do you need??!?! Added bonuses of squental injection and ignition to add to the pile of things this is able to do, allowing my toyota COPs to be fine tuned is always a positive to me! switchable maps for when 'fun' mode isn't needed (never, but it's nice to have the option). CEL light on the dash to warn of sensor failures, launch and flat shift for rally spec ASBO mode, VVT control for my new engine, nice to know it's just a case of connecting a wire! Oh and pit lane limiter, cos racecar. The list goes on and on and on, you get the picture, these ECUs have been around long enough to have seen what people want, and added the option, if you are after the most feature filled advanced control for your MX5, I wouldnt bother looking any further, just put it in your basket and do a buy!
