I had some open-coil BareKnuckle Mules fitted to my Les Paul that I decided would really look better with nickel covers on. One option was new pickups, but the much cheaper option was to fit covers myself. The Mules had vintage pole piece spacing, so these covers were just right and fitted perfectly. Filled the top of the covers with melted beeswax, fitted the pickups in, and soldered them on either side. Another blast with the hairdryer to melt the wax again and it was done. The wax connects the cover and the bobbin to stop The cover vibrating and becoming microphonic. Vintage PAFs didn't have potted coils or covers, but these Mules were potted and for high gain work the potting is necessary to stop squealing. The guitar looks so much better now. I'm really pleased with them.
