“The desk top arrived and a day later the legs arrived !! Odd shipping ! The wood on the sides of the desk is untreated and rough , a bit disappointed the finish. Is should been smooth and treated I would imagine. The hairpin legs are good however.”

“When I unpacked the legs (which are great, well-priced, and arrived on time) I was disappointed to find one of them had some fairly large scratches/chips to the powder coat at the base of the leg. This was right back to the bare metal. It's a shame that this was not picked up when the legs were individually packed and boxed as it it clear that it could not have happened in transit. So, I contacted customer services and was hoping for the response to be: really sorry to hear that, I'll send a replacement leg straight away and also give you a returns label for the damaged item. Instead the response was more or less - sorry, but if you can live with the damage then we'll offer you 10% as goodwill gesture, or you can return all of the legs. After querying why I couldn't just send one leg back (I couldn't), the offer went up to 20%, which I accepted as I can probably touch up the scratches so they are not obvious, and my daughter is really excited about her promised desk! In summary I got an acceptable outcome (just) but feel the customer service was not as hot as it really should be. Yes, I have the hassle of painting the chips, but no I didn't have the hassle of returning all four legs and delaying the build of the desk. Also, we mustn't forget that my story to people when they ask me about the lovely desk and 'those legs', will probably always include the fact that I got them from Hairpin, and they are only 'ok' as a company.”

Hello, I am sorry to hear about this issue. I have gone back through your emails with us and agree that the wording was not very clear on the original email. When damages do happen, we always offer a partial refund or a replacement. The reply you got did make it sound like you had to send us back the legs under the normal returns procedure to get a replacement but this is not the case with damages. If you wanted a replacement we would have got that out to you right away. I see we have refunded the 20% to you now, but if you did want a free replacement we can sort that out. Do let us know.

“The product (desk and legs in my case) are really great, solid, strong and very smart. However, it took 4 weeks to arrive and we had to chase all of the updates. There were no comms from the company. We were about to cancel, but then the desk finally arrived.”

“Legs themselves are sturdy and good quality but on the 3 spoke version the fixing holes are so close to the 3rd spoke its almost impossible to get a screwdriver and hand in position to screw the fixing screws in successfully. Also, the packaging of the screws was very poor as it had spilt inside the outer box and the screws were all loose inside the box. Fortunately none had come out of the box and got lost. No fitting instructions supplied although fairly intuitive apart from advice on how to get to the fixing holes on the 3 spoke version or how far from the edge of the workpiece its advisable to fit the legs. Overall good but some areas to improve on.”

“Inconsistent quality on the J hooks. A few of them were perfect but others had visual damage, plus a few of the (white) screw caps were poorly finished so stood out against the white hooks. For the cost per hook this was a bit disappointing.”

“A bit underwhelmed by the inconsistent quality. I ordered 4 of the coated J hooks together with a set of hairpin legs. The legs look good although the heat from the weld has left the mounting plate bent on the corners, but shouldn't be too difficult to fix. The J hooks are finished in white but one arrived with a damaged finish, and the decorative eyes are miscoloured on several of the hooks.”

“I love my new desk in principle, it's smart and a great size but I am so sad that the surface scratches with the tiniest of friction, I have little black scratches just from putting a coffee mug down and where I pushed my laptop back - all on day one of home working. Gutting.”

Hi Hannah, I am really sorry to hear this. We use genuine Formica surfaces which are designed specifically for worktop use. The grey will show light grey scratches if they were deep enough (but they would need to be quite severe). It would be interesting to see some photos if you can and I can see if there is anything we can suggest.

“I ordered the 16” x 1/2” clear coated legs. They arrived well packaged and individually wrapped inside. However 2 of the legs have multiple chips and scratches on them. They must have been there before they were shipped as I don’t see how it could have happened during shipping given how they were packaged. I hope they don’t begin to rust in the spots that are exposed as they are clearly visible.”

Hi Jo, Thanks very much for your recent purchase and I'm very sorry to see the damaged shelf brackets. That's certainly not good enough from us and I'll get a replacement set out right away. Thanks for the feedback and giving us a chance to fix the problem, it's always much appreciated even if it's things we need to improve on. “The product is good, though a bit overpriced on the desk/table top I think. They sent out an extra set of legs to me by mistake and the experience of sending them back the £70 with of stuff I could have just sold on eBay was painful. Overall I like the desk but feel a bit bummed about the customer service.”

“A generally good and sturdy product spoiled by poor communication around delivery and slight damage. Completely confusing when product would arrive from the website. No communication when it was actually going to arrive, just a generic delivery message from the courier. Very minor damage to desk top but not worth returning.”

“The legs arrived and were exactly what we were looking for. But, unfortunately each legs had defects on them which disappointed us. The paint covering was chipped/flaked on each of the legs on the bottom which some were very visible. We had to use a black marker pen to fill in the chips for it to be acceptable.”

Hello, I am very sorry about this. It is not how we expect for them to arrive and you should not have to touch them up. We will always replace the legs if they get damaged in transit like this. Do contact us to get this resolved.

“The legs were well made with acceptable welding but the finishing let them down. There were dark marks along each face of the metal and they had to be polished (a lot) at home. Little expensive for the quality too. I've bought nearly identical box legs before that were about the same quality but they were much cheaper.”

Hi Bob, This is really not good and not how the legs should turn up. By the sounds of it, these ones may have missed the polishing/cleaning step in production. I could not see any emails from you, but if you wanted to message in we can certainly replace them.

“In the main fairly good ,absoulute nightmare to actually buy items from you ( using trade account) which a week on still haven't been verified !! And unable to sell me legs in pairs ,can't place orders over the phone ,but apart from that ,the product is good .”

Hello, I am just looking for communication from you in regards to your trade account and I cannot see anything. We sent you some questions after you signed up and just need answers back to those - the approval process is usually done within a few hours after we have these answers back. Please jump on the trade site live chat and we can help you out right away. In terms of phone orders, we do not do this I am afraid. Online ordering streamlines the process, ensure you get the items next day if you order before 2pm and is the best way to keep any ordering errors to a minimum. We do only sell our table legs in full sets. All legs are made, coated and packed in sets and we just don't have the capacity to complicate things any further by breaking sets down.
