“Ordered plates on 24h delivery A few days later still not arrived Couldn’t make contact via phone so emailed Responded a few days later informing me they needed additional information to process the order Why wasn’t this flagged and they contacted me? Why wasn’t this requested during the order process? As nearly two weeks had passed I’d since ordered plates from elsewhere so looked to cancel they then had the audacity to attempt to charge me £3.99. Seems like a scam to me”

“Absolutely rip off DO NOT USE if you need to cancel for any reason it is a charge per item not per sale under 4.3 of their terms!!! Because we all read those! Complete joke customer service disgusting!!”

“Awful company to deal with. Needed spare rear plates for a new car and trailer. Only mention of required docs was on a confirmation email, but so far down I didn't see it. After waiting for the plates I ended up getting them done at Halfords due to time pressures. This is when you find out that buried in their T&Cs is a nearly 50% cancellation fee per plate. £3.99 per plate, 4 plates, £16 on a £34 order for doing nothing. It's a business model setup to catch you out (no mention of any documentation before ordering) and then hammer you for cancellation fees.”

“Mistakenly believe their cowboy practice is protected under the consumer act as a “bespoke item” and that they can legally trap you into paying them £8 no matter what. THEY ARE WRONG. You can either report them to PayPal and get a refund or if you pay via any other method you can complain under the consumer rights act 2008 as their method of telling you what you are “legally” required to do only after they have your money is effectively misleading you into entering into a contract: don’t fall for it. They are correct that the documentation from the DVLA they require is necessary for legal uk plates; however, they are not legally required to; 1) hide this information until after they have your money 2) start printing the plate before you send them the “legally required” documents 3) charge you £8 to cancel. Plenty of decent companies out there, so avoid this one.”

“My son ordered a new plate for his bike on the 30th of March paid 38 pounds for next day delivery through pay pall. Was asked to show proof of log book and his driving licence which he did and received email back saying all received . Message to say dispatched on the 31 st of March. So he though all sorted for when he can ride it on his birthday on the 10th of April. Only the reg never came . 8th of April sent Email to So called number 1 plates to ask when his plate had not arrived , to be told it’s never been sent as my son never sent documents, even though he did and has the email from the company to prove he did . So birthday ruined great for a 17 year old as no plate and down almost 39 quid too . Shocked is all I can say as his mum”

“Terrible company and poor after sales, my plates arrived on time but very bad quality, edges rough and chipped , asked for replacements or a refund and was refused. Total rip off! £70 down the drain !1”

“THIEVES DONT BUY FROM HERE, ordered some plates they took money and then throw you with T&C's still dont send anything out and ignore your messages please read other reviews on various platforms they are happy to get bad feedback than to return £30, shows how big this company is need my £30 to run it !! AVOID AVOID AVOID”

“I ordered number plates from this company and it wasn't till I made payment they then asked for lots of private information I didn't wish to supply. I asked for a refund and they charge you £3.99 per number plate when they refund you. They had never made the number plates and stated no where about this private information before i payed. There customer service team were extremely rude about it and I definitely wouldn't waste your time with this company.”

“TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE SEE THEIR REPLY!! Rip off if you need to cancel your order! My son who has Aspergers ordered plates for a car he is hoping to purchase when he passes his test. He used his Christmas present money from his grandparents to buy them not realising that you need to purchase the right to use the number plate first as this is not at all clear on their website. When they asked for details of the registration of the plates he realised his mistake and asked for a refund. He got quite a rude reply back saying they would deduct a £3.99 fee from each plate meaning that nearly £8 of his Christmas present money has gone which he is very upset about. I then emailed them and explained about his disability and how it wasn't clear on the website and I got the same rude, impersonal email that my son had received earlier from a different person than the one I had emailed saying again that they would deduct £3.99 from each plate ordered and would I like a partial refund! I am very unhappy with this customer service and am considering reporting them to Trading Standards. I have now had a reply from them (see below) that they have the right to charge £3.99 per plate due to potential material wastage and the admin costs! Well the plates haven't been made yet and you are telling me that it costs £8 to send an automatic reply to an email and to process a refund!! Also you say you have a right to which doesn't mean you have to when it's involving the Christmas present money of a young man with a disability. I shall be calling the bank to ask for a refund for a mis-sold item and Trading Standards as it wasn't clear on their website that you need to actually purchase the rights to use the plate and they only make them. “If I could, I would give this bogus company -5☆. Worst number plate maker you can find. Terrible customer service and refuse to refund me for repeatedly sending me faulty plates. Bought a set of 3d gel plates which after a few months had issues. The backing suddenly had bubbles in and therefore made the plate illegal. They replaced them for free but then the new set had a 3d gel letter fall off. Contacted them again and was sent another set. Which, unsurprisingly, were faulty. The lettering was out of line and the backing was already peeling off. Contacted them asking for a refund as I wanted to take my business elsewhere, which I still feel is reasonable. But was refused and was quite rudely told I will not be getting a refund. Was then apparently sent another set of plates which, after nearly 4 weeks, have not received. If you try and call them the number will never connect you and you'll get charged for ringing it. So don't waste your time there. Don't even waste your time buying from "Number1Plates".”
