The lodges are in a beautiful setting and very well insulated so if your dog barks your neighbours will probably not hear it ( although your dog might). The terrain on-site is hilly and undulating so my 86 year old dad made use of the golf buggy taxi service when needed. Dogs are not allowed on the golf course but there was a beautiful riverside walk to north bovey from our lodge which hettie loved. The staff are all so welcoming and friendly and everyone loves dogs . They have a lounge to relax in with your dog in the hotel which was super comfy and had great views. Hettie enjoyed meeting other dogs there. The moors are literally a 5 minute drive from the lodges so for different breath taking walks you do not need to travel far. The lounge and kitchen floor in the lodge was stone/ wooden. A godsend for us as hettie likes to scratch carpet. The bedrooms were huge and the en-suite bathrooms kept topped up with gorgeous toiletries. We took are own dog towels but you can get some from the hotel. My one suggestion to the hotel would be- it would be great if they had an outside tap with small hose/ spray head attachment outside each lodge or at least a rinsing station near to the lodges. There is no where to really wash your dog off if they are particularly muddy after a walk. That may not be a problem for those with small dogs but if yours is like hettie - a large breed dog, we used a large plastic bowl from the kitchen to rinse her paws after. It was ok, but I would hate to have bought a really dirty dog into the property. There is a washer/drier in the property which was so useful. We had a really special family meal in the Great Western Restaurant with my brother and his family who joined us for a night (they live in Plympton). On our arrival the dog poo bins and outdoor bins were overflowing with poo bags, but a report to the staff saw it quickly dealt with and for the rest of the stay they were all emptied regularly. We had a gorgeous welcome hamper in our lodge which was a lovely surprise, all with local produce and a bottle of champagne. I think to be able to take your dog/dogs to such a beautiful place is lovely. For us, the lodge gave us the access to all the hotel offered but the independence of our own space where we didn’t need to worry about hettie disturbing other guests with her occasional loud woofs!
