I bought this lens for video and photographing my daughters equestrian activities as the zoom range allows me to capture horse & rider at both ends of the arena without change lenses, and is probably ideal for any sports where the action can be very close or far away. When capturing indoor sports then the lower light and F6.3 limit requires higher ISO than ideal, but thats only to be expected and its still pretty good. The zoom range also makes it an ideal 1 lens solution when hiking. The lens feels very well made and the zoom ring is nice and smooth offering just the right level of resistance, and the programmable control ring on the lens is very useful allowing me to change the exposure very easily as the light conditions change during events. I've attached a couple of jpeg photos taken from the same position on Cat Bells to show the zoom range, and also a Bar-Headed Goose to give an indication of the sharpness and bokeh at 240mm, f6.3, 1/500 and ISO 5000.
