“Our heat pump system stopped working and we didnt know why. Called FDG who fitted us in the next day and quickly found the problem was that someone in our house had pushed gear onto a pipe and broken the join. Despite this being totally our fault FDG didn't bat an eyelid - they quickly fixed it and were nice about it too. I can't rate their after care highly enough!”
“Charged £199 for an EPC certificate and never lodged it.
Never applied to the DNO for permission prior to installing the equipment here: 5kw inverter, 10kw battery and 5kw Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP). Didn't submit the appropriate forms after installation either.
FDG quoted for a battery and inverter with a lifetime warranty. After the battery and inverter were fitted by the sub-contractor, a booklet was left that told me where to go for an extended 5 year warranty. It turned out that the battery and inverter only came with a 5 year warranty plus 5 years on registration on the website - which FDG stopped me from doing.
They also quoted for a configuration that can't be fulfilled - eg 15kw of battery storage. For this brand it was 5kw x 3 to make the correct capacity. FDG installed 1 x10kw battery. I cancelled the second battery when I found out about their fraudulent activity.
They didn't even fit the solar panels that they'd contracted to do and the Iboost hasn't been installed either. Contract price was £22,800 for equipment that didn't come with a lifetime warranty. That's fraud.
FDG Group Ltd have been reported to the Police for Fraud and to Trading Standards for a criminal complaint.
FDG refused to provide a written breakdown of their invoice. This was requested 3 times in writing.
FDG engineers didn't take appropriate measures to safeguard my home, as stated in the clause in their contract. Incorrectly installed ASHP. Placed water cylinder in loft without prior loading calculations. Damaged my home in the process and still haven't repaired it all. Created dangerous situations with wiring and piping that should have been removed. Ignored Nottingham City Council Building Inspector's request for loading calculations and placing the cylinder on a plinth. Refused to reply to formal written complaint. Refused to meet for a recorded mediation meeting. Trader lodged MCS certificates for systems that aren't commissioned (not working properly and not completely, correctly installed). They're not supposed to do this until everything is working correctly. The system still doesn't work properly. Reported them to Trading Standards.
FDG kept making appointments to rectify the ASHP installation but never turned up.
The water cylinder regularly locks up and there is a leak in the system. I often come home to a house that is 13c. They were briefed about my disabilities and particular needs and didn't take of my home/refuge. Contract for ASHP was £12,500. I am supposed to be able to receive SEG for unused electricity going to the grid and an RHI grant from the government for the ASHP. Neither of which can be done without MCS certificates which I doubt I will get now before the government's March deadline.
2 independent heating engineers said that their work was unsatisfactory and that the installation of the ASHP was incomplete. 2 Structural engineer reports have said that the water cylinder can't stay where it is as it's unsupported and resting on 1 joist. FDG still haven't provided the building inspector with the requested loading calculations.
Complained to American Express. Have tried to find a reputable company to rectify FDG's shoddy work and then pay them what they are actually worth, after repairing my home and discounting an amount for the stress caused. FDG stopped other companies from repairing their shoddy work.
FDG had Which? Trusted Trader status and were reported to them for non-compliance on 6/12/21. Which? Trusted Trader removed their endorsement of FDG on 16/12/21
Do not make any cash, BACS or Debit card payments to FDG - pay by credit card only so you have some protection. Complaints have been lodged with all of their compliance organisations.”
“After trying a few companies (who ignored us or were priced higher with lower RHI) we found these guys and they have been amazing, the installation a year ago they worked around us while renovating our house, the unit it’s self is quiet and efficient. Our bills have reduced and are now very manageable and Steve came back and did our service recently and we’ll have them back to put some heaters on. I’d highly recommend them!”
“Too many problems to list with regard to the heat pump fitted May 2020 and how we were left to sort it out with pretty much zero support from FDG. They ultimately fitted a new pump due to specifying too small a size originally.. this was result of short cutting the heat survey in order to speed up the job. I'm sure that there are some customer focused and competent organisations who can install these systems. Unfortunately, FDG are not one of them.”
“We had direct contact with a number of employees from FDG and they were all very prompt in responding via email and phone. They did visits and surveys and reports with a very quick turnaround and the installation was surprisingly done (including 16 new radiators!) in the 3 days they promised - and they made sure that we weren't left without hot water and only one night without heating during the installation process. When there was an issue with "balancing" the system, someone came out within a few days and spent 3 hours sorting it out. We're happy with our efficient new heat pump :-)”

“We purchased our Solar PV and battery installation from FDG after being very impressed with their salesman Steve F, who was friendly, knowledgeable, fair and honest, and whose level of service was head and shoulders above the other companies who quoted us. We felt that their offering was good value in the market so chose to go with them. Installation was duly arranged, and everything went downhill from there... pinpointed pretty much to the moment we handed the money over.
FDG had subcontracted the work out, so we found that engineers did not turn up when they should have done, and when they did turn up some of the critical parts were missing so we had to wait around a week for them to come back to finish the work and activate the system. The standard of workmanship was good, but they missed off all the safety labels for the system, and we got no demonstration of the product or any information on how to get the best out of it. After a lot of chasing FDG sent their own electrician out to rectify the lack of safety labels. The app for us to analyse our usage didn't work, which turned out to be because the inverter was running on old firmware and needed updating, which he also did. (We understand from FDG that they have since stopped using subcontractors).
Regulatory paperwork was either missing or very late, and we had to keep chasing for months for some of this, including the paperwork to register our system with the network operator. FDG kept insisting that we didn't need it, but our utility providers insisted we did. We eventually got it after several months after lots of chasing. Meanwhile the director mistook us for another customer and started emailing us chasing payments that we didn't owe.
We have since had some errors pop up on our system and have emailed the company a number of times to get some advice, but we have never received a response.
We've given them a very generous three stars because we're overall pleased with our system and were very impressed with Steve F. But their aftersales service leaves a lot to be desired and we felt this let them down.”
“Very disappointed in the service of the installation. Floor boards were broken, carpet stained, walls marked, installed radiators in the wrong place, leak down the wall and the pipe work was installed wrong. Nothing went smoothly and when asked to fix they tried to charge us extra and blame us for them not having a detailed plan of the works being carried out. FDG subcontract the work out so communication was poor and the plumbers installing the boiler had loud music on, shouting & swearing so overall very disrespectful.”
“We have had issues with our boiler since it was fitted in September 2020. We cannot have the radiator in our bedroom on at all or the downstairs don't get hot. When we asked about this the engineer said was an easy fix and should be included in package to then be told wasn't their fault but could be fixed at a cost to us of £400. I would never recommend anyone to this company we have a system that doesn't work properley at a cost of nearly £50 a month for the next 10 years disgusted!!!!!!”
original energy output of our solar panels had to be recalculated (downwards) twice, and the work had to be rescheduled twice, but when it was done, we were happy with the workmanship. A neat and tidy job was done.”

“A good company who completed a professional finish to my solar pump heating system, although thier care of customers property should be of concern to them as in cleanliness and leaving dirty marks on paintwork and external brickwork etc. I would reccomend them, and have them do more work for me should I require thier services. However they would need to improve on their after sales and customer service when agreeing to certain customer requests and thier communication skills need to be improved, but overall pleased to have been a customer of thier's.”
