The black is red based and gave my dark brown hair a darker brown reddish shade. The colour stained the shower walls and floor quicker than I could have expected and it took me a bottle if toxic bleach to clean it up. I know how to wash hair professionally and it left my hair dry. I purchased the red colour as a gift and will warn the recipient to not use it unless she knows my review.
