Never be a guarantor! I agreed to be a guarantor for a colleague who I believed would be able to manage the repayments. All went well for the first 6 months until he changed bank details and never updated them with amigo despite multiple calls, letters and emails. They eventually sorted it, but instead of updating their bank details took advantage of the covid 6 month pay freeze. When that period ended the account fell into arrears. Amigo couldn't get through to my borrower, who ignored every contact. I got chased with letters, emails, voicemail and texts threatening legal action, meanwhile my borrower can sit there with his thumb up his a**e ignoring it all! When I complained, saying amigo should do more to make contact they threw out my complaint saying "if they choose to ignore us that's up to them". By that logic surely we can all do the same and let someone else pay it back? In the end I have up, paid the arrears and cleared all debt. Didn't even get thanked by my collegue. Don't bother helping anyone.
