I am writing this disappointing review regarding the suggestions given to my family for our coastal part of the trip to Kenya by Wayfairer. As a travel agent, your website states you are a "luxury specialist." It being our first trip to Africa, I wanted to make sure my family and I would have a good time. Knowing that there was a commission attached to this convenience, I went ahead and used Wayfairer to have no regrets. I used your agency because you have people on the ground in Kenya who could further advise you on specific locations regarding the weather during certain months/seasons. Beginning at the sales pitch by Jess Tyers, I was told that Watamu Beach in Malindi will be a great spot for my family, and especially my 3 teens, for the Italian restaurants, gelatos, and water sports. Never was there any mention of rainy or seaweed season!! Had Jess been a bit more aware, and honest and used the resources the agency maintains at the ground level, she would have known that July is rainy/seaweed season up until August. Every local I met mentioned that this is not the right time to come to Watamu, including management at Medina Palms. Upon arrival at Medina Palms, we were greeted with tropical weather which includes rain and with which comes seaweed. The entire beachfront was filled with seaweed and the rain was on and off, more on than off. Due to the rain, came the mosquitoes, another negative we had to deal with. Most restaurants, especially the Italian ones were closed for business and wouldn't open until August. My son wanted to do deep sea fishing which was also closed. Speaking to Som, the Wayfairer agent, we were told that Italians open for business in August because that's when they arrive. I wished Som would have passed that critical piece of information to Jess at the time of my booking. My family and I were staying at the resort for 5 nights! After complaining to Wayfairer, I was told that this was a one-off storm that brought in the seaweeds. They used Google to verify this was a "one-off" storm. Having agents on the ground means nothing because Google is the agency's first and foremost reliable source. What is happening on the ground level, the experience a person is going through is not viable if contrary to what Google has to say about the weather. The management and employees at Medina Palms were shaking their heads as they told us this is not a one-off storm as this is how the entirety of the season. In conclusion, we had a terrible time at Watamu Beach. My husband and I were celebrating our 20th anniversary and that turned to dust. Our expectations shot down to zero once we encountered the tropical weather. As far as I can see, Wayfairer is about taking the money and leaving the customer dry. They will lay the blame on everyone and everything else, including nature, and fail to confess to their own mistakes. Based on my pictures and collected emails from the various resorts, I demand a portion of my money back from the coastal part of the trip. This is Wayfairer's fault for giving out bad suggestions without any kind of research on the type of season the coast of Kenya is experiencing. Customers BEWARE!
