The chairs are of a very solid construction. Their shape is very nice and not too clunky (which I was worried about). My only real disappointment was that one of the chairs had a knot in the back of of one of the seatback slats which, whilst not large, had not taken up the wood stain. This means there is a noticeable small white mark on the back of that chair.
