According to my invoice I was charged for 3 gallons of fuel when I collected my MX5 on 31st January even though the fuel gauge looked low. On my way home the fuel warning light was on in under 40 miles and empty by 50. Checking the mileometer when I arrived home I discovered that since the car had been MoT tested on the 29th January and my collection two days later there were 35 unexplained miles. Does this in part explain the low fuel. I photographed the mileometer when I arrived home and wrote to SG Petch a couple of days later including the photo and suggesting an explanation was in order. I also mentioned my surprise that I was introduced to a second salesman who, I was told, wished to ‘thank me for my business’. In fact this was a cynical ploy to launch into a hard sell for GAP insurance. Finally 4 days after purchasing the car an email arrived to offer me Mazda accessories at a 10 per cent discount once more to ‘thank me for my business’ . I had paid the full price of £259 for mudflaps to be fitted when I bought the car - no ‘thanks for my business at that point’ These issues were raised in my letter addressed to the Dealer Principal. He/she has not even had the decency to reply to my letter. This has been the most cynical experience I have had in dealing with many dealerships over the years. I am very unimpressed.
