Rointe D Series. The D Stands for DISAPPOINTMENT! I purchased two D series Rointe heaters costing over £1000 with the hope of adding to my smart home devices expecting an equally seamless experience from what I deemed to be a high end brand especially considering the price. I have been very disappointed and had I known would have steered clear of the Rointe D series heaters. Although confident in Rointe’s ability to make electric heaters, before purchasing please read the App reviews and comments for "Rointe Connect" the Android and iOS App for the D Series and it should be clear to all that ROINTE DO NOT KNOW HOW TO MAKE SMART HEATERS OR THE APPS REQUIRED TO RUN SMART HEATERS. This foray into smart heaters, based on the software comes across in execution like a rushed final year student software project which aptly enough would also receive a D grade. As an IT professional on an iPhone X it took me over 4 hours troubleshooting my own home 2.4GHZ network connection and router not knowing the flaws where really in the implementation of the Rointe D series software from the bug that stops you from deleting a heater with the error “cannot delete -Heater Name- till room is empty” on iOS even though it IS empty. To resolve this I had to use an Android phone version on another phone. To the firmware update feature on the app, that does not work. The firmware only updates via the physical heater menu but nowhere are we made aware of this. Then there’s the delayed communication between the app and heater when you initially setup the app. I have never experienced such poor software implementation with any other smart device in my home, yet the Rointe technical support team insisted it was my network. After trouble shooting on my own I realised that after connecting the app to the heater the latency issue resolves itself after around 30 minutes to 2 hours depending on luck so I suspect there is an external server running at Rointe that deals with the configuration which may be slow in configuring newly added devices (this has not been confirmed though any input from Rointe would be appreciated). Why didn’t Rointe also add Bluetooth communication because the D series WiFi implementation is a shambles. Don’t get me wrong the heater itself works great, but the D series was advertised as having smart features with the cool Rointe Connect App many of which do not work or are flaky, hit and miss and a flat out disappointment. The tech support team (2 people) ran me through the usual excuses of blaming my WiFi network, blaming WiFi interference and then asked me to switch my router on and off again. All to no avail and only proving their own lack of understanding of the flaws and issues in the product line and the numerous potential customer challenges this creates as one assumes they are getting a finished working product. In summary this is a half baked product with huge potential if Rointe would iron out all the bugs but it’s been over 4 years and you would have thought all these software problems would have been fixed by now. Save yourself money and buy their standard heater products with a remote or expect hours of frustration and troubleshooting with the D series. Sort it out Rointe, your customers deserve better.
