The reviews of this Kia Sorento suspension kit are all absolutely correct: the change is unbelievable! In order to get my Sorento through an MOT, I had to fit new rear shocks, so I duly ordered a pair 'that would fit my Sorento' from an online retailer. Easy enough to fit, and the car passed with flying colours. However, three days later, when coming to clean the car, I went to use the rear wheel as a step to wash the roof and noticed I couldn't get my foot in between the wheel and the wheel arch. I ignored it, thinking the suspension was just sorting itself out. But no. That very night, whilst driving my wife to work, I noticed that the headlights were pointing as far down as they could go, rendering them pretty much useless - even with main beam on! What was happening was that the car thought that it was down on it's back axle, so the auto-adjusting lights did their thing and pointed down, as a measure no to dazzle oncoming drivers. Handling was rubbish, too; the back end wallowed about like a hippo with a fat a**e, and the car was riding on the suspension bump stops. I made enquiries with a Kia main dealer, who gave an estimate of well over £1000 to replace the rear 'suspension' (I didn't even bother asking what that comprised of). I just couldn't understand why the suspension didn't work, given that it was widely available from many retailers: even reputable local, but after much digging, I discovered that I needed self-levelling suspension. There were only two retailers that quoted 'self levelling' - Pedders and a website selling official Kia parts. (Incidentally, that Kia parts website wanted £££s just for a shock absorber). I read the reviews on Pedders.co.uk and just before I pulled the trigger, I gave them a phone call just to triple-check I was about to buy the right thing. The chap who answered the phone was SUPREMELY knowledgable and it filled me with confidence to learn that only Pedders and Kia sold the self-levelling shocks. Happy and confident, I duly purchased the shocks and coils kit, which arrived two days later (ordered too late for dispatch time). My knowledge of spannering is probably to the lesser extent of an enthusiast, and although I had the use of a relatives dealership workshop, I can say with confidence that I could have changed the suspension at home with a couple of trolley jacks, axle stands and a pry-bar. Bolt off and bolt on. Easy peasey. The result? The car handling has been transformed and the ride height is back to normal. To say I am chuffed is an understatement.
