There's no doubt that MCN Compare is very useful, but there are a few gotchas. 1. You WILL pay more than the headline rate. Extras such as pillion cover and legal cover always bump up the premium. 2. You WILL have to over the details again, in excruciating detail, with the company or agent of your choice, so you end up giving the same data at least twice: into the we forms and then over the phone. 3. Mismatches between the questions that the webform asks and those that the insurer needs will cause the premium to rise, because the MCN site uses the lowest-common-denominator approach to data. Having said all that, there is still the dilemma between the cheapest and the best. For example, Carole Nash wanted over £500. When I asked why this was twice as much as other quotes, I was told "we're not a budget insurer" which didn't help me one bit.
