Ashton Charge
I would not use unless you can clearly and unequivocally show that you are the sole purchaser of the item, as not even they are aware of what their t&c's are regarding that. Bought a phone brand new and unopened that had been originally purchased within their required time frame. Phoned to ask how cover might work in my situation and was told several times that it was ok so long as I had the proof of purchase and a letter from the purchaser forwarding ownership to me. I subsequently made several phone calls to them outlining my circumstances to try find out specifically what each of these items of proof would need to include in order to claim my insurance and not fall foul of some missed out crucial info. I acquired all these items of proof exactly as instructed then low and behold when I finally went to claim, provided them with exactly what they asked for, they denied my claim and made my insurance void as the item was "second hand" as I had not bought it from a "UK registered company". My circumstances had never changed and they were completely aware of those circumstances from the very beginning and not one single person over the course of a whole year flagged that, in actual fact, their small print would contradict them and my policy was apparently never valid. I phoned to challenge this and ask why not one person had said to me that I wouldn't be able to claim and why the items I had been asked to provide were either no longer valid or never were and that their advice had been false. Their response was "I don't know". This leads me to believe that the advisors I had spoken to on several occasions, simply were not aware of all the facts and had given me misinformation leading me to open a policy that was never valid. It also suggests to me that this is yet another insurance company that will move mountains to find a reason to not pay out instead of helping you through it. They are investigating why this has occurred and I await their response. Either way I am glad this is only for damage and I am not trying to claim compensation for a stolen item.
