I would rate the booklet as excellent and even essential reading for first time hearing aid users. For more seasoned readers there are two areas that I feel need less smoke and mirrors, 10 to 20 visits over 5 years in my experience would indicate something seriously wrong with the initial settings or the choice of aid, the NHS say once every 3 years after the initial 6 month visit following fitting and Specsavers never call you back after the first check up after fitting, it's down to you to contact them if you need their help, which of course is readily available. The other issue I have is price transparency in the industry, how much am I charged for the aids themselves, what is the VAT element of this cost and how much am I paying for follow up care for 5-8 years or whatever and is this VATable A pair of top of the range Sivantos aids at Specsavers cost £2700 all inclusive of aftercare for life, the two aids including VAT at 20% are £900, so fitting and aftercare is £1800 with no VAT chargeable. The cost of the aids should not vary much from dispenser to dispenser, so the big price differences we see from audiologists is their VAT free costs/margins, some charge £4000 against Specsavers £2700 for the same product. I am not a Specsavers fan as their choice of manufacturers and lack of details of their own brand is not good, but I feel ripped off if I go elsewhere. I am sure I am not alone. Keep up the good work and do consider improving pricing transparency in your excellent booklet.
