Firstly, I like GO Outdoors. I've previously left some 5 star reviews re the staff, their service and the stores. However, this faith has been badly shaken. I Visited the Milton Keynes store a couple of weeks ago and bought two expensive backpacks. They didn't have the sizes or colours we wanted in store so, the shop assistant ordered the ones we wanted online. We also took advantage of their price match and got a good discount. Delivery 3-5 working days. Happy bunnies. Jump forward two weeks. No backpacks arrived. I called customer services. There had been no contact from G.O. with in the interim. I was told, one backpack was out of stock and the other should have been refunded. I had received no such refund and asked why I had been refunded, the backpack was out of stock I was told. But why not refund both, I enquired, they're both out of stock at least give me the opportunity to wait for both to be in stock. And why no communication of this? "I don't know" was the response. I was asked if wanted to cancel the other backpack and get a refund for that as well?. I did, so i was put on another lengthy hold. Eventual I was told that Customer Service couldn't put the refund back on my card, I had to go back into store and explain everything to them, again. (You can see why customers get annoyed, but I bit my lip). Just lucky I wasn't visiting the area from far away I suppose. Whilst I was waiting, I checked stock availability on G.O. website, both backpacks were in stock! I queried this and asked if they could just be re-ordered, no, not possible I was told. "Yes, I don't know why this happens" was told, what, items shown as in-stock on your website being out of stock? "Yeah" you can't check stock availability on your system? Well, both backpacks are shown in stock, can I order them now like I did in store? "No, they're out of stock" (screams into cushion...) My suspicion is this. When I requested the price match, the staff member checked the details of the other retailer and that the price match was in line with G.O. policy. All good, discount went through. The price match was accepted but it was a large discount, nearly £150 for the two packs. Not wanting to effectively give the packs away, cynics among you (I couldn't possibly say) might think that this feels like an underhand way by G.O. of getting out of honouring transaction and their own price match (as long as its not too much) policy. The whole thing just stinks. Needless to say, once bitten twice shy. Caveat emptor.
