Where Quote Me Happy has any more than one star appears to be based on the prices they quote to get your custom. Cheapest is not always best, however, as claiming is a different matter altogether. The storm on 18 February removed ridge tiles and put them through the roof of our conservatory. Phoning Quote Me Happy just gives you a claim number, you're on your own to get emergency repairs and quotes for repairs. You are then bounced between the owner of Quote Me Happy, Aviva, and their claims handling company, Home Repair Network Limited (HRNL). After a lot of questions and photos I was rung by HRNL asking if I was content with a figure they had dreamt up. I was outside at the time without access to the quotes but this figure sounded suspiciously low. I asked if this figure was the full amount of my claim minus my £600 excess. I was told that it was. A few days later a random figure appeared in my bank account, around 60% of my claim. I wrote to Quote Me Happy on 1 April asking for clarification as to whether this was an interim payment but received no reply other than to be copied on an internal email. I emailed HNRL again today, 3 May, and received a reply giving their settlement figure breakdown and informed me, for the first time, that the VAT element would be paid after the work was done. However, without the courtesy of any correspondence they have unilaterally underpaid my claim leaving me £388.68 out of pocket (in addition to my £600 excess). I have never experienced such bad customer service. One to avoid (unless you are really confident that you won't ever have to claim)! Financial Ombudsman Service is my next stop.
