If I could give zero stars, I would. Took out car insurance with them. All going fine. Yesterday, an email arrived from them and said there was an issue with a payment due a couple of days ago. I didn't know there was even a problem. I've certainly not had a problem with any of my payments before. Couldn't get into my insurance account. Tried to check with my bank, but the bank app was down (as were the ones of other banks too - it was a nationwide issue - it was very highly publicised in online news sites, TV news channels etc). Couldn't go in branch either because it was - yup - a bank holiday. All I could do was try to sort it out the next day when the bank was open - not a bank holiday. Had to go to work this morning. Managed to persuade my boss to let me have the afternoon off work as annual leave so I could ring One Quote Direct, and also call into my bank to find out what the issue was as I have never missed a car insurance payment. So only one day since they'd contacted me - and not even one half of a working day since they'd got in touch with me. Fair enough, right? Giving someone half a working day to get in touch. Get hold of the bank, find what the issue is, and if it was a payment that had not gone out, get onto the insurance website and sort it immediately. But...before I even left work for the afternoon today, not even lunchtime, I get an email from One Quote Direct, saying they had cancelled my car insurance with immediate effect. What??? With only one half of a working day notice??? Not even five hours of a working day. For a payment that I hadn't even had time to find out what the issue was with it? They cancel your entire year's insurance with just half a working day's notice before you can even find out what the problem is. They simply had not allowed me sufficient time to find out what was going on. No letter. No email except the one dated 1st January bank holiday day. No phone call. No text. Nothing. Cancelled an entire year's worth of insurance just like that. No apology, no assistance, nothing. Left me stranded at work with no insurance on my car, and having lost half a day's annual leave I'd asked for to try to see what was going on. I never even got time to use the leave to find out what the issue was. And if the payment turned out to be late, then it wasn't even two working days late. Seriously, how can a company even do that? Needless to say, I'll be writing a complaint to them, with a copy going to the insurance ombudsman. On the upside, my car insurance is due for renewal in three months, and over the past few weeks I've been inundated with other insurance companies offering me £200 a year less than One Quote Direct have been charging me, so I'm taking up one of their offers. So don't waste your time and money. Go elsewhere unless you want a company cancelling your insurance with just a few hours of a working day notice. Because, quite simply, as a customer, you deserve better. I deserve better. It's just a shame that it is only today that I've gone on Trustpilot and find the reviews of One Quote Direct are 92% NEGATIVE. It sums up this company completely.
