First of all, some information for context: - Aged 28 when surgery undertaken - Hair thinning noticed at 23/24 - Used topical minoxidil for three years prior to surgery and have continued using it since - Researched the internet for two years before committing to FUE Clinics and the procedure Review - 5 stars: excellent service, excellent outcome. I noticed my hair was thinning when I was 23/24 and only came to accept it when I was 26. Upon the realisation, I did two years of research around many providers - looking at surgical and non-surgical interventions. However, I realised that my hairline had simply lost too much hair for minoxidil alone to help. I undertook a free virtual consultation with Jeremy, at FUE Clinics, who explained the practicalities and science behind hair loss - which was helpful and informative. After many months of decision making and reading around FUT surgeries (which is the one I went for), I went with FUE Clinics, because: 1) Easy contact with Jeremy throughout the pre-surgery process 2) Flat fee 3) I was the only patient / customer for surgery in their very modern, well fitted surgery. 4) Flexibility around timings The surgery itself was in Birmingham and was absolutely superb. The day started at 09:30 with a briefing from a member of the team, who gave a great overview of the day; I then met with the surgeon and medical team who outlined the surgery step by step. I already felt like I was in safe hands! The surgery process involved many hours, around six, of sitting/lying extremely still. I took my earphones and intermittently used them throughout. However, the team were extremely conversational and there was also a huge smart TV in the surgery room. The surgery basically went like this: 1) Final decision around desired outcomes for my hairline agreed with the doctor and new hairline drawn onto my forehead 2) The surgeon administered the anaesthetic - which was around 20-30 small, sharp, quick injections around the extraction site (back of my head). This was uncomfortable but it was over with within minutes. 3) Once the anaesthetic had numbed the extraction site, the surgeon removed a strip of hair (FUT surgery). He handed this to the team of five trichologists who began to extract the hair follicles while he sewed up the extraction site. Again, a little uncomfortable and involved around 45 minutes of lying on my front (very still) but no pain and nothing beyond the realm of manageable. 4) The superb team of trichologists then began to extract hairs from the extracted strip and I enjoyed a break - with drinks and snacks supplied by the clinic. I spent the 15/20 minutes sitting with the team, as they extracted the hairs. 5) The surgeon then administered another round of anaesthetic to my forehead / hairline this time. Again, it was another 25-30 small, sharp, quick injections to totally numb the area which was about to receive the new hair. 6) He began to make the 2000+ incisions into my scalp for the new hairs to sit in. This part was where I listened to music, as I needed to sit very still for around two hours. Again, no pain - just a little discomfort having to be still for so long. 7) Lunch break - supplied by FUE Clinics. I sat with a “surgical hat” on to make sure I didn’t touch my hairline or the extraction site, whilst I ate and read the news on my phone. The team continued to extract the hairs as I had my lunch and had 2000+ hairs ready when I returned to the operation theatre / surgery room. 8) The team then rotated for around two to three hours - inserting the new hairs into the new follicles the surgeon made before lunch. They were fantastic and kept me comfortable throughout. This part felt the longest for me personally, as I had to sit totally still for the entire time. The team of trichologists were fantastic and knew exactly what they were doing - start to finish. The surgeon checked in throughout and topped up the anaesthetic when required. 9) At the end of the surgery, I was walked to the car (my partner collected me) and provided me with painkillers and antibiotics for the next few weeks. Jeremy checked in and I sent daily photos to him for a fortnight - which felt reassuring and comforting after such a huge surgery. 12 months on and I cannot explain how glad I am that I went through with it. My hairline is so much better and looks completely natural. The surgeon and his team did a fantastic job. The surgery - like anything which is complex and intricate - is expensive but it is so worth doing. Jeremy is great for questions - do reach out and ask! 5/5 stars - start to finish excellent service.
