Festoon Lights - Beware I was initially very impressed with the ‘Connect Pro’ technology. The lights look great when working. In total, I bought seven strips of the festoon lights. I have had issues with three of the strips on separate occasions. The first two sets that failed were quickly replaced based on the photographic evidence I shared with them. I found the customer service good up to this point. However, on the third occasion, I was required to send the lights back that had failed. I had no problem with this. I was then contacted by Festive Lights who claimed the set sent in was working and offered photographic evidence to back this up. This is despite me sending them photographic evidence on the contrary. I can only assume there must have been some sort of intermittent fault. I obviously did not want the set returned to me as I knew inevitably they were failing. I ended up being put through to an after-sales manager which was a somewhat difficult conversation. During the conversation, my version of events was called into question at several points. I was asked about the installation of the lights. I had already confirmed this on a previous email. When I installed them nearly a year ago using the compatible power cable purchased from their site, I removed the plug and wired the cable into an outdoor weatherproof junction box. The regulator on the cable was left completely intact. However, the after sales manager believes that because I removed the plug with the fuse in it, there must have been power surges that have damaged the regulator on the cable causing the lights to fail, on three separate occasions, in totally random parts of the link (see photos on my Google review). This is of course nonsense. I contacted an electrician that evening to check and he confirmed removing the plug would make no difference. Basic electrical knowledge would confirm that fuses in plugs are designed to blow if the appliance or device causes too much current to flow. Plus modern day trip boxes would trip well before a fuse in a plug would blow. They do not offer protection against power surges. You would need a surge protector device for this. This is assuming there were power surges in the first place! Unfortunately, as I have ‘modified’ the power cable, this has given them an ideal get out clause as I have now ‘invalidated the warranty’. Therefore, I have no leg to stand on. They offered to test the adjacent set of lights for faults but I did this myself and they were fine. I have asked them to dispose of the lights I sent in I will not buy any of their products again. I write this review in good faith as I feel the festoon lights are expensive and are of poor quality which is a real shame. Whatever you do, if you buy, don’t hard wire the power cable into a junction box as they will use this as an excuse. I feel really let down as I felt paying a little extra for product would mean they would last longer when clearly they don’t. I have attached photographs to my Google review of the three occasions lights have failed so you can judge for yourself. Photo 3 failed Sep 21, Photo 2 failed Jul 21, Photo 1 failed April 21. Installed Oct/Nov 20.
