I used Environ for a rat problem that I had under my floors (converted Victorian 1-bed garden flat) on the basis their pricier service was thorough, environmentally friendly and innovative. As per website marketing and sales call discussion, I expected a full investigation (lifting floorboards to access) using UV-light tracking powder and thorough inspection of ALL problem areas, followed up by treatment using traps and - one of the main reasons I selected them - the jack russell. One star is provided because the service technician who attended was professional, knowledgeable, generally on time and extremely helpful with some good advice. He also attended all 3 visits which helped as I didn’t need to re-explain each visit. That’s where the good review ends I’m afraid. Serious issues faced: 1. The office had not advised the technician of the need to access under floorboards where there was not already an access point. I had explicitly asked about this as knew at least one area didn’t have an access point. Technician said they don’t do that - in conflict with the info I’d been given by the sales team. On my insistence, floorboards were raised in one location I knew had access hatch (the guy was happy to do this thankfully but needed to seek permission from office first!). 2. No tracking powder was ever used to identify routes/entry points - even after confirming this with customer service before the second visit. There is clearly poor communication between the office and the field teams as these inconsistencies recurred. Very disappointing. For treatment, only traps were laid and no dog was ever even offered, so I don’t even know if this is a real option! 3. A drain survey to inspect for possible entry points was advised and made sense so I went ahead, paying in advance as requested (mistake). The drain team were professional and seemed good. It wasn’t until afterwards that issues came up. The report was completely incomprehensible and technical. No overall drain plan provided to map out where problems were identified nor was this properly explained to me despite repeated requests. The drainage engineer never bothered to call to discuss despite repeated requests (I ALWAYS had to chase up Environ). I also had problems accessing the cctv footage - which showed nothing anyway to support any of the recommended works. One particular (dead) pipe was later found to have been blocked by steel wool and a screwdriver which was retrieved by hand by another drain company I had engaged. This called into question the thoroughness of the drain inspection that Environ had conducted. No excuse for not identifying this! 4. My main issue with Environ is the exorbitant price it charges. The quote for remediation works (on mostly lateral shared drains which are actually Thames Water responsibility) came close to £6000! For example, charging over 3 times quality competitors and over 10x DIY prices for manhole covers and rat valves is just plain having a laugh. Even against similar high quality products they are at least 3x as expensive: £2600+VAT for 5 rat valves and £650+VAT for a stainless steel manhole cover - materials only. Ridiculous. When I called to discuss prices and options, a measly 10% discount was offered, and the 5yr guarantee used as reasoning (same as others BTW). I politely declined and went elsewhere. I’m not stupid, and had sought three other quotes based on the work report, which all came in at approx 1/3 the price. Overall very dissatisfied with Environ services. They are expensive, don’t deliver on what they promise for the premium price, and their customer service when calling in is appalling as they don’t follow through. I do not recommend using them as they are no different to others and not worth the additional price. Go elsewhere for your sanity!
