My son went to Cambodia for 4 weeks this summer. Yes it cost a lot of money, yes we had the uncertainty of whether this trip would ever go ahead following Covid but oh was it worth every penny and all the eating. My son had such a positive experience. I can honestly say he has come back a changed individual. He is more driven, he is more grateful for what he has. He used to spend far too much time gaming on his PC. He now hardly ever goes on it. He is far more communicative. It has clearly had a lasting profound effect on him. I certainly hoped this would be the case when he first showed interest in the trip but it has far exceeded my expectations.
