Overwhelming impact- it felt as if we were not in a play at all, but witnessing the joys and tragedies of real life firsthand. Typically Irish in its mixture of tragedy and joy. I occasionally lost a little of the dialogue from some of the younger characters, but that did not lessen the impact of this wonderful play which celebrates life in all its diversity and complexity.

Brilliant production it kept emotions going from high to low. One minute we were laughing and the next almost reduced to tears . We loved every minute .

An amazing play which is really, or should be, a triptych. It appears to be historically specific but deals with universal themes and conflicts. All drama is referenced one way and another from the Greeks to Ibsen and Friel. At its heart is the enduring power of the story and myth. Great acting, stage craft and production. Not seen its like in over fifty years going to the theatre.

Whilst the acting was superb, the seats were beyond awful. We could possibly see about 10% of the stage and could hardly follow the action at all. The Gielgud Theatre is very steeply tiered and, if people in front of you lean forward to see (despite being asked not to), you don't stand a chance. Told the Duty Manager at the interval how disappointed we were (indeed we left at the interval it was so bad), but he just suggested we e mailed to put pressure on the producers to resolve the problem for future audiences - didn't help us at all. This was a very special date for us, which we had been looking forward to for ages. Definitely don't book anywhere in the Grand Circle if you hope to see anything whatsoever.
