My machine was built in East Germany, in 1988. The MZ ETZ 250 Luxus was the best all round 2 stroke motorcycle that the Zschopau Factory had ever produced. Assembled from good quality components, with East German bearings, a Mikuni oil injection pump and a dedicated workforce, these machines were built to withstand a hard, long life on the roads of the former Eastern Bloc. My motorcycle cruises at 70mph, has low speed torque and power, with a well spaced 5 speed gearbox. The weaknesses of the electrical system have been well sorted by an electronic ignition module and an electronic voltage regulator. Mechanically, the machine is sound, with bearings and seals having a long life. Having the kickstart lever (no electric foot here) is mounted on the left hand side, takes some time to get used to, but, if everything is set correctly, a first or second kick gets the motor ring ting tinging. Fuel economy in the high 50s to low 60s is good for its 25 or so horses and 2 stroke oil consumption is good, as I have never monitored it. This is a machine that I have owned since new and, at the moment, I have no intention of selling it - other machines come and go, but the MZ is for ever.
