I booked a hotel through Alpha rooms, The website stated at time of booking a 20 deposit was required and full cancellation if required. I booked and the very next day cancelled through their website. I received an email to say that the booking would be cancelled and could I confirm, this I did. One month later I checked my bank account and a payment was taken of £828.85 for the booking. I requested cancellation through Alpha rooms on the 17/03/2021. The booking should have been cancelled and the second payment of £828.85 was due on the 14/04/2021. This money should not have been taken and I am now been informed by Alpha rooms that's they were waiting for a cancellation confirmation from the hotel. They did this on the 27th March. Why did the hotel proceed with taking more payments when they and Alpha rooms both knew that the booking was to be cancelled. I requested from both companies what date were they informed of the cancellation by Alpha rooms. I was told by Alpha rooms that if I did not accept a voucher they would not cancel the booking which implied that further payments would be taken. This can not be legal, both parties were informed one month before any payments were due that I wished to cancel and proceed to taken money from my account. This is stealing.
