“Very nice bike great power great handling and awsome sound. Only thing I Would say is fueling at low rpm is quite aggressive but I'm sure a power comander and remap would solve this! Also well worth having the suspension set up to your own spec all in all great bit of kit”
“Bought a grey R1 new in 2004, didn't use it much and fell off on my first track day.
To me it was never the same again and I was worried about my licence as the performance is so addictive. Sold it then regretted it ever since. Reached a certain age and realized life is too short so saw a grey 2005 model I had to have. Love it to bits but still don't ride it much but when I do it's a fantastic piece of kit.”
“The cross plane crank R1 is so different to any other four cylinder bike I have owned. Takes a while to get used to it.
I fitted decat with akra pipes then ECU flash and it completely changed the bike for the better. Yamaha should have made the bike how it is now. Before the ECU flash the throttle was so jerky on and off the throttle the bike was a nightmare through the corners. But now it's smooth as silk with lovely power delivery.”
