Cornus dogwood are deciduous shrubs with bright showy stems. They bear lance-shaped mid green leaves which have beautiful autumn colouring and small, star shaped flowers.Flowers are followed by loose cluster of strawberry like berries. Cornus are best planted in a woodland garden or as a specimen tree. Require well-drained, fertile soil and prefer neutral to acidic soil. You can make your soil more acidic by adding ericaceuos compost. The tree requires no regular pruning, since this would interfere with its beautiful tiered habit. Cornus Controversa Variegata known as the wedding-cake tree because of its distinctive, horizontal, tiered habit is a small deciduous tree with strongly tiered branches bearing narrowly ovate leaves broadly margined with cream and turning yellow in autumn, They can reach heights of 4-8 metres.
