Privet tend to be semi-evergreen plants depending on how cold the winter is. They have simple, oval leaves that can be apple green or gold and bear small flowers followed by black or purple fruits. Privet are one of the few plants that can tolerate pretty much all soils and aspects. They are perfect for small gardens as they can be pruned hard to keep them slender whilst retaining height. Privet can grow about 30cm (1ft) per year.
