“Pupils really enjoyed creating freeze frames that represented key events in the text: Where the Wild Things Are. All pupils engaged in the warm up activity which was well led. It was also good that Alex made sure that everyone had a role too so that they were all participating. All pupils enjoyed bringing the story to life and the activities were well-pitched.”

It really made them think about how to portray certain characters, for example, the question was asked, "How does this character walk? Does he walk using his knees first, his elbows, chest etc.?" Ellie, the workshop leader, did a remarkable job of bringing the texts to life in an engaging and fun way, which also supported the children's understanding of the stories. A real buzz was created around the texts and the children had a wonderful day.”

“Chris was fantastic! He ran each workshop efficiently and engaged the children right from the beginning. He began by introducing the story to children and recapping what they already knew, making sure to highlight the setting and the characters. The children participated in a fun warm- up before he introduced the workshop. Each workshop was appropriately planned allowing children to use their own ideas as well as those he suggested to them. There were opportunities to ask questions and share ideas throughout. The performance at the end of each workshop allowed the children to showcase their piece and perform this successfully to music. We would welcome Chris back in a heartbeat! I will certainly recommend him and the company to the other schools in our Federation. A massive thank you from the children and staff at Sutton Primary Academy. “What a fantastic day! Julia arrived nice and early with her DBS and ID - which doesn't always happen with visitors! Julia had 7 sessions over the course of the day, from our smallest in Nursery right through to Year 6. We chose 'Where the Wild THings Are' as our book for the day and the differentiation was clear between the age groups. The children had great fun performing to music and creating their own pieces of dance under Julia's careful and clear direction. Many of my staff commneted on what an excellent teacher Julia was - we would cheerfully have her on our staff! Thanks for a wonderful day!”

“What a fantastic day!!!! Emma engaged the children from the outset of her sessions and produced work of the highest quality. We loved the new structure of the workshop and leading towards a whole school performance at the end of the day made it purposeful and meaningful for the children. All children could access the sessions and achieve and the end of the day performance was so wonderful to watch! This is our 4th year of West End in Schools and was definitely our favourite so far! We can't wait to have you back in next year!”

She had a kind and caring manor with the children and quickly built up a good rapport with them in the sessions. The session was interactive and kept children engaged throughout. “West End in Schools helped us to immerse the children in the story of 'The Butterfly Lion' by Michael Morpurgo. The workshop leader was great with the children, encouraged them and also engaged them throughout the session. The children all felt like they achieved so much, and came away with an experience that will also help them in the classroom. Because of the workshop, lots of the children have spoken highly about dance and drama being something that they would like to take further with them in the future.”
