Excellent standard of cabins, food and excursions together with drinks at lunch and dinner, mean small onboard spend.

In March 2015 I had the extreme pleasure to take my 2nd River Cruise with Viking, this time on the Douro. This holiday was diverse indeed, from the beautiful buildings in Lisbon, Porto, Coimbra, Guimaraes and Salamanca to the peaceful riverbanks with its' wildlife and the wonderful patterns on the surrounding hills made by the vineyard planting. This journey afforded much to the traveller with wonderful cuisine, a great programme on and off ship and superb company. There was entertainment onboard and off ship by local people, giving travellers the true essence of Portugal and Spain. The ships' crew ensured that everyone had a truly memorable experience and one that they would wish to repeat. Viking deliver an extraordinary intinerary covering the true culture of the countries visited. I was so overwhelmed with The Douro Cruise, that within days of returning from the holiday, I booked another on The Danube for 2016! Sandra Bull

This March we sailed on the Duoro river in Portugal; a non-industrial quiet river winding through granite rocks and steep vineyards. Our cruise director, Patricia, was highly organised, efficient yet relaxed and friendly and all crew were proud of their lovely country. Wherever we went the local people were helpful, welcoming and interested in us and the ship. The spring weather was gorgeous with clear blue skies, temperatures of C 23-28 degrees and no rain at all. There are many highlights on this trip- don't miss all the opportunities on offer, you will still have plenty time on board. We would certainly repeat this lovely holiday.

A wonderful cruise on the Danube, our 2nd river cruise with Viking & it didn't disappoint, the crew, the ship & most of all the food did not disappoint, we have booked an Ocean cruise on the Viking star next March for our Golden Wedding anniversary & I'm sure it wont disappoint, thank you Viking.

My last cruise was in April 2015. I enjoyed it and the high standard was typical of all your cruises. I do however have two observations about Viking in general. 1. My main grumble is the lack of interest that you display in single cruisers. You have built a completely new fleet of river boats and are building three ocean going cruise ships but you have chosen, presumably deliberately, not to provide cabins specifically for single cruisers. In fact you are behind the curve here. Some other cruise companies are doing just this because they value this market sector which you obviously do not. The 100% supplement that you want to charge is outrageous. Where there is a reduction you are only prepared to offer single people the least desirable cabins on the boat at the last minute as though they are some kind of inferior species. 2. But also none of your staff seem to be aware of the disadvantages that single people experience on your boats. When I have occasion to discuss the dining arrangements with your staff they all say the same thing i.e. 'you can sit where you like'. But it is not as easy as that. One has to wander around the dining room trying to find somewhere to sit only to find that most people are saving seats for friends so one has to keep going from table to table to find a spare seat. I have had to do this 5 or 6 times on some occasions. Conversely, if one sits at an empty table no-one comes to join a person on their own. All the tables always have an even number of seats. Why don't you provide tables with 3, 5 or 7 seats for example? Apart from single travellers there may be groups of odd number passengers. The maƮtre d' should be looking after this and finding a seat for all your passengers but I have never met one of your staff who does this - unlike some other cruise operators. You make great play of being able to make advance reservations on the ocean boats for different speciality restaurants but this is of little benefit to single travellers unless they want to dine alone. Your photos in your brochures tend to show nice tidy even numbers of people too. On the whole you seem oblivious to this and to the message that you are sending out i.e. 'single people need not apply'.

This time we went on your Rhine river cruise.... the tours, cabins, wine, staff, meet and greet at the airport - all were excellent! But the evening meal we must say, was awful; a strange mixture of dishes, ingredients, and small portions. I put this all down to the chef's choice and the fact that lots of the dishes, possibly, were prepared and pre-cooked ashore. We and other guests were disappointed with the dinner, as on the Danube cruise, the year before, the meals were excellent proper 'cuisine' of a high standard. I have to mention that being advertised under the name of Viking, I expected a mixture of European guests, as no mention of our cousins; it was predominately Americans and they seemed to take-over evenings in the lounge/bar area to the detriment, and oblivious of other guests. I'm sorry but you did ask!!!

A great cruise overall, with well planned excursions. The ship was beautifully designed, staff were brilliant and the food was excellent. Even though we opted for the lowest price cabin this time, as it was an extra holiday, we were very happy with it. Our only criticism was that whilst in Amsterdam, at the beginning and end of the cruise, we were berthed in really ugly areas, well away from the city centre, whereas on previous cruises, we had been able to walk into the city centre.

We have had 3 cruises and enjoyed them all, if we could find fault it would be that the Rhone cruise in particular would have benefited from being 2 days longer as we could have spent more time around Macon etc. The Danube cruise (our first) was great but again we wished we had a little longer - cruising up the Danube from Budapest in the daylight and in Bratislava and the Wacau valley. Our Tulips cruise which was 9 days was just right!

This was my third cruise with Viking and it lived up to the high expectations created by the previous two.

We started in Lisbon with a day to see around followed by a journey to Oporto and then up the Douro River. Highlights were visiting Cockburn's port vineyard, trip to Salamanca in Spain and the very pleasant and enjoyable stay on board the Viking boat sailing up a most beautiful river. A trip well worth doing. Highly recommended

The 2 cruises we have been on with Viking have been really enjoyable the only thing that spoiled the first class experience iwas the flight times and having to transfer at Amsterdam both times instead of direct flights.

This was our third Viking River Cruise and the standard of the service and food was even better than previous cruises. We have been on many ocean cruises including the princess grill on board Qeen Mary 2 and I can honestly say that the food on Vilking Skadi was of a higher standard. I can't wait to experience a Viking Ocean Cruise. Saving hard!

Pricey, but can't fault the quality of the cruise, the food or the service on board. Let down by air transfers - the use of KLM from Glasgow was a shambles for the second year running (long gueues for 30 minutes at the s-called drop off point) and the situation at the KLM departure place (I won't give it the dignity of 'lounge') at Schipol for the flight to Glasgow was a disgrace.

The cruise with Viking was just fantastic and lived up to all our expectations. The staff were so professional at there jobs. Everything was laid on from the beginning to end. The food on board was superb and really enjoyed the chilled out experience in the restaurant.
