“100% Reference for Trek-adventures.co.uk Introduction to Sailing - June 2023 One Week on board the Bavaria 32 named Leo 11, based at Lixouri Harbour, Kefalonia If you are unsure exactly how, or if, you want to develop your yen to go Sailing, then the Introduction to Sailing Week offered by Trek adventures in Kefalonia, Greece is a 100% recommend. This is the Walk don’t Run approach that takes you from a novice to the point where you can now take an educated view of where you want to go next. In developing your sailing journey you now can visualise options that are now appropriate to you, you can see various roadmaps that actually make sense going forward. More courses? More qualifications? Joining a flotilla? Be the crew for a qualified captain when chartering a boat, get some hours under your belt as Crew? or get qualified yourself? The Med or The Solent? A 32 footer or something bigger or smaller? You may not know everything but in the case of myself and my neighbour (both landlubbers) this week was superb, we have no complaints at all, trek-adventures.co.uk in Lixouri, Kefalonia was a gentle and simple introduction to sailing, it delivered on its promise. And of course this recommendation would not be complete without a huge mention that our Skipper/instructor, Barry, had the patience of a 'saint' and felt passionately about his job as tutor and was able to impart his obvious knowledge and experience clearly and without fuss making the experience so much more than just a holiday!!! I could go on, the Gulf of Argostoli is a fantastic benign location for learning to sail and Lixouri is a working town unspoilt by tourism but the best advice I can give is just go there.”

“What an amazing experience that we would recommend to anyone who thought about a sailing course, this course gives you everything that you need to become confident with the support of the team, our trainer Mick was exceptional with great patience tested at times but with a smile at the end.”

“What a great time we had on our learn to sail holiday. The yacht was lovely and very well maintained. The instructors were excellent, Barry, Mick and then of course our instructor Shirley. What a lovely lady we had so much fun and laughter with her. Shirley has a wealth of experience and knowledge, she really knows her stuff and is a brilliant teacher. From the time of our initial enquiry to the office in the UK prior to booking the staff were very approachable and helpful. We can't fault our complete experience with Trek Adventures and definitely intend to go back. We would certainly recommend them to anyone looking for the very best learn to sail holiday.”

“We took this holiday to learn how to sail with no precious experience. Great bunch of people to work with. We learnt so much . Everyone one we met was kind and helpful . Thank you Shirley for an amazing time on the water. We didn’t stop chatting and laughing the whole holiday.”

“The hotel was a little grubby at first and we had to ask for our shower to be cleaned. The food was not hot enough and the breakfast was very limited. However, the quality of the evening meals was excellent. The hotel staff were really great and it really felt like a family hotel. It was clear that the team were trying to please but keep the costs down. The view from the back of the hotel looking over the water was stunning. The sports team were great, very friendly, encouraging and informative. The equipment was a good standard and appeared to be up-to-date.”

“Food luke warm at breakfast and evening meal, although it was tasty Poor on-water tuition- if any, land based tuition good. 1 1/2 hour lunch break for beach staff, could have been staggered so that beach activities were still open. On strong afternoon wind beach staff were slow to catch boats returning to shore, (they would have a shock if they worked for one of the top 2 activity holiday companies!) Had to use taxi at 20 euros round trip to town on non food evenings. Lovely sandy quiet beach. Very clean and well kept family hotel.”

“Super week staying at Kostas Beach House Lixouri. Kostas was extremely friendly and helpful. Facilities at the Hotel were superb. Teenagers loved all the water sports and learnt to sail and windsurf. Instructors were organised and knowledgeable”

“Very friendly helpful staff both from Trek & the Hotel at Paliki Bay & a great family holiday. We were in a group of 15 (3 families of 5) & all were keen to use facilities. I appreciate that often other families aren’t the same but it was frustrating at times (mainly for beginners amongst us) when lessons used all the available kit meaning there was non available for those wanting just time on the water. The situation was also complicated by being nearly at the back of the sign up queue (by virtue of sitting on the far side of the terrace at the briefing). This could be easily resolved by a few more Topaz boats, a few more windsurf boards & sails. These could be shared between the 2 sites depending on predicted/actual levels of demand each week. That said, we all managed to get on the water & had a lovely week. With a bit more kit, we would definitely consider a return.”

“Our whole family had the most brilliant time at Lixouri bay. From booking until check out; everything was seamless. Our holiday was equally relaxing and active with both ourselves and our girls having learnt new skills taught to us by attentive and enthusiastic instructors. We loved our week in Kefalonia and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend or book again!”

“This was a more affordable holiday than the bigger companies we had been with before (Mark Warner/Neilsen) and we liked the relaxed atmosphere, were impressed with the admin before our holiday and the resort staff were friendly & helpful. Villa Mitis (Kefalonia) was a lovely spacious villa close to the beach. A lovely relaxing week.”

“We have had a fantastic week at the Lixouri Beach club. The beach club staff could not have been friendlier and they were very skilled teaching us a range of new water sports. Nothing was too much trouble! The family who run the hotel are incredibly welcoming and the food is delicious. It has been an absolute pleasure dealing with Trek Adventures and this is definitely one of the best holidays we've ever had.”

“We had an absolutely amazing week with Trek at the Lixouri Beach Club. We were seriously impressed with the staff and equipment - the staff were enthusiastic, knowledgeable and great teachers, and there was a range of kit to suit all abilities. The staff at Lazaratos Hotel really made the holiday as well - so friendly and welcoming, and the best food! We're already wondering when we can come back, so thank you!”

“Friendly & Knowledgeable staff, couldn't do enough for you & very hard working. We were staying at the Paliki Beach Club, but using the watersports package @ Lixouri Beach Club. I would recommend the Lixouri Beach Club just for the size & facilities of the beach. All the equipment was well maintained & seemed new. Staff in both Hotels were very helpful & friendly. We stayed at Villa Fedra, which was fabulous. A few maintenance issues needed to be ironed out with the AC remotes, toilet seats & a few new kitchen utensils could be added. But nothing that stopped us enjoying our stay. The Trek Adventure staff in the UK recommended a car which we definitely needed to get to the other beach club, & we used it to see other parts of the Island which we would recommend.”

“Hotel. Fabulous! Family run, so welcoming and service was fantastic. Room was very comfortable and clean. Food was excellent and plenty of it and reasonably priced. Trek Beach Club. Possibly our error, but we went to this beach club to do paddle sports not sailing/windsurfing and we were limited by the weather on some days. It was frustrating that we couldn't paddle at the time of the day when the conditions were best - first thing/last thing, as the beach didn't open until 10am and closed at 6pm. Would have been useful if the information given has been clearer that paddle sports may be limited by the weather conditions in this location. Also, there is no mention of the hill walk down to the beach club or the lack of toilets there. The beach bar, run by the hotel, was great, however it would have been nice if food was available there at lunch times. Equipment. The only kayaks available were double kayaks, these were not suitable for one person to paddle. They were also in poor condition and the paddles provided were very old. The iSUPs available for the first part of our week were in poor condition with several broken fins, missing D-rings and heavy paddles. Thankfully the club received a delivery of brand new Fat Stick iSUPs half way through our stay. These were of excellent quality with great accessories and carbon paddles, they even came with seats so that they could be converted to a sit-on Kayak, which took away the issue with the double kayaks. I just hope that the new equipment is looked after better than the previous kit. Beach Club Staff. All the staff were extremely helpful, approachable and friendly. They made the sure that all guests were safe but were able to have fun and a good experience. UK Support. We had to change the date of this holiday twice, we originally booked in 2019 for 2020. The support given by the UK team was excellent and we are grateful that we were able to do this. Overall. We had a great holiday and we have recommended this beach club/hotel to our friends who have older kids that love sports and would like to learn windsurfing. It is possibly not the right location for us as paddlers, but we were able to take advantage of the calmer days and got a lot out of the holiday. Thank you very much.”
