Very disappointed with my shelf. All the beautiful knots are on the bottom now because of two splits on that side meant it had to go that way up.

Hi Elizabeth, sorry to hear you are not happy with your shelf. You have ordered the Rustic Pine Shelf and as per the listing specification cracks can be expected, it is just the nature of the product. Perhaps you may have been better suited to the solid oak kiln dry range.

Burnt far too quick for OAK,lots of the product was crushed sawdust.not a oak log overall dissatisfied.

Hi Kevin, we are sorry to hear you are dissatisfied with your order. As specified on our website we do advise due to the small size of them they are best used in conjunction with logs. The main benefit of our oak briquettes is fast, intense heat making them an exceptional fuel to get your stove up to temperate.

The shelf we ordered arrived and didn’t look quite the same as what we ordered in terms of colour. We sent it back which cost us over £12 😅

Hi Marie, sorry to hear you were not happy with the colour of your shelf, your email advised the shelf you ordered was too thick for your purposes. The website does state that returns would need to be paid for by the customers, sorry for any disappointment.

I purchased 4 beams and they initially looked amazing in the various rooms where situated. Unfortunately 2 of them warped, and now those 2 look terrible. Although the other 2 do still look amazing. They are all situated above heat (correct me if I am wrong but are they made for this??) so can't understand why 2 warped and 2 didn't. On contacting you to voice my concern, I disappointingly received a very sarcastic email back. Safe to say I won't use Traditional Beams again!!

Hello, thank you for your feedback. I am sorry to see 2 of your Pine shelves have warped. Unfortunately on this occasion, I think this is just a misunderstanding of the product you have purchased. You are correct in thinking our products can be installed above a heat source, however, they must be a safe distance away. If any of our products are exposed to extreme heat then there is a much higher risk of warping/twisting. In your case, you have installed our air-dried pine shelves directly above your radiator which is not something we would recommend. We wish on this occasion you had chosen to get in touch with us with any questions about the products and installation and we would have been more than happy to help and assist with advice. We are very sorry to hear you found our response via email sarcastic, this was not our intention at all

Ordered two beams, the order process itself was really easy. One shelf was really nice, looks perfect, however, the second shelf was bowed and does not look very good at all. I sent an email to raise the issue, complete with photo, but was told that it can be normal for a shelf to be bowed or warped. It is such a shame as we looked around for a long time to get the right look for our living room and feel a little let down that we paid more for a bespoke product rather than something ‘off the shelf’ and will now need to get something mainstream to replace this beam. The shelves were meant to be a taking point in the house, unfortunately it is a now a talking point for all the wrong reasons. Such a shame as could not recommend these beams to anybody on the basis they may also get a bowed shelf and will be unable to return or exchange it for a straight one.

Hi Mark, thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear you are not happy with one of your rustic pine floating shelves. As explained a little bit of movement/cupping is normal as the shelf adjusts to it's new heated environment. It is just the nature of the product. I have checked our email communication with you and we did request for some further photos from you as the one provided only showed a tiny bit of movement, whereas you advised the shelf had seriously bowed. Unfortunately, this email was not responded to. Please feel free to respond to us and we can look at other options for you as we would not want you to be unhappy with your order from us.

Was not happy with the quality of the shelf and company suggested replacing. They agreed to refund but there were issues with collection (courier did not come on day), which was sorted. The company were extremely helpful on the phone pre and post purchase.

Hello, sorry to hear you had some issues with your order. I have had a look into this and it appears your order was damaged in transit, unfortunatley once the orders leave our workshop it is out of our hands and on rare occasions damage can occur. I am glad you found our company helpful and we managed to rectify this for you.

The metal inserts did not properly fit into the wooden holes of the shelf, poor workmanship.

Hello, thank you for your review. Sorry to hear you were not happy with the workmanship and felt the metal inserts did not fit properly. We do drill the holes with a 13mm drill bit and the fixings are 12mm. We make the holes slightly bigger because if we made them the same size as the fixings it would be quite difficult to get the fixings in. We do recommend on the installation instructions to use some silicone or grab adhesive, in addition to this air dried oak does tend to shrink and it will shrink around the fixings.

A long wait for manufacture and delivery and then when it arrived the holes on the back were not measured with equal distances thus the beam went up at a slight tilt (about 3mm out)....my holes were level but the beam support hole were not even with the max adjustment allowed on the dowels provided. Disappointing.

Good service but disappointed in the goods received. Received an oak beam which was split down the whole length to a depth of about 3/4 of the width.

Hello Brian, thank you for your review. The product you have received is an air dried oak beam which can feature varying cracks and other distinguishing features. We do show a number of photos to give an idea of the differences in beams on the product page however each piece is unique as it is a natural product. We also state in the description that each beam can vary in terms of cracks, knots, grain and colour. These are the same beams we use for all of our fireplace beams which we also have finished examples of throughout our website. We offer this option to provide cheaper prices for those wanting to finish their fireplace beams themselves and save some money. I can see you ordered directly from our website and all of this information was available to you at the time of order so it is disappointing to see a negative review based on something that is a natural part of the product and to be expected. I can assure you we don't send beams out with cracks which are excessive and can not be used. We only send out high quality beams. Cracks can actually be a good indication the beam is nice and dry and has done the majority of its moving. The cracks will also not affect the structural integrity of the beam. As the beam are air dried is it also typical for beams to crack as they acclimatise to room temperature. If you are looking for a product with no cracks then I believe this may not be the right product for you. I have checked our emails to see if you have messaged us about being disappointed with your order. Unfortunately I can not see any correspondence from yourself. Website very misleading. I was unable to have the beam anywhere near the stove as the pictures show due to it being a combustible material! Or without an additional ugly heat shield. The website has no mention of this at all, in fact if we'd fitted ourselves I would have placed it like the pics, much nearer and then its a fire risk! The beam itself is lovely, jus a shame it cannot be used as per the many pics on the website!

Hi Lisa, we are sorry to hear you found our website misleading, Oak is a natural product so is a combustable material. We only manufacture our products and do not install them. I can see that you emailed our customer service team where you advised you would need to check the manual of your stove for the recommended safe distance to install your beam, or if you did not have that to contact a HETAS registered installer. It is impossible for us to give this advice when we are not on site and each stove gives out different heat outputs. We are happy to hear you found our Beam lovely and you should be able to instal it if you follow the correct proceedue of installation.

It’s good quality but a rip off. We ordered a 6x3 beam but ended up with a 5x2.5 one. This is hidden away in their FAQs which I’ve only just seen and isn’t made clear when making a purchase unless you read that section. It’s basically to get you to order a bigger version (costs more) so you get the actual size you want. Just cut it to the size we’ve ordered and up your prices a little! Now I’ll have to lose my £14 postage from you, pay to post it back which will be expensive and pay another £14 postage for a new one plus the extra cost for a bigger beam!

Hello Simon, I am sorry to hear you think the beams are a rip off, we put a lot of effort into making our beams and think they are priced very fairly and competitively. The size beam you order is the starting size... is cut to the correct size and then it is machined, planed and sanded which can result in sizes being approximate to 1/2 an inch depending on how much work needs doing to each beam. Although you say this is only apparent in the FAQ's this is actually high up in the description of the product and in bright red writing. It is also emphasised again in the 'important' section at the bottom of the description. Perhaps you didn't read the full description before ordering? I have attached a screenshot of both to the review. We try to be as transparent a possible with the product our customers are buying. Many thanks Rebecca

Beam arrived with no bracket to fix. Contacted company who apologised and said they would send out in the post. A week later and still not here so have had to contact them for a second time. Beam itself if very nice but not much use on the floor.

Firstly, thank-you for your feedback. I'm very sorry for this oversight on our part initially. We are very busy at this time of year and inevitably mistakes can happen from time to time. I have relayed the feedback to our packaging team. We dispatched the brackets with Royal Mail 1st class the very same day so it's very disappointing to hear that they didn't arrive.
